Just 20 minutes from Dunedin on the crest of the hill with stunning views over the forest to the bay below lays Orokonui Ecosanctuary. The nine-kilometre fence protects the 307 hectares of forest, and some of the world's most fascinating and rare wildlife. Come and explore our award-winning Visitor Centre, tuatarium and skink enclosure.
Our forest is home to robins, rifleman, kaka, takahe, Haast tokoeka kiwi, bellbirds, tui, fernbirds, jewelled gecko, tuatara, Otago skinks and our friendly eel.
You can walk independently or enjoy the forest with one of our knowledgeable guides.
Takahe feeding is 11.00am daily.
